PRICE ADMITS PREMIER LEAGUE FORMAT IS REPETITIVE

GERWYN PRICE admits the Premier League format is “too repetitive” and believes changes are needed.
‘The Iceman’ revealed the weekly roadshow is “tough” for the players as they don’t know how long they will end up at the venue.
The eight-player tournament operates on a knockout system, with each competitor facing off once in the quarter-finals during weeks 1-7 and again in weeks 9-15.
But the Markham thrower was blunt when asked if he likes the current structure, simply saying: “No.”
Price continued: “I just think it’s a little bit repetitive, we’re playing that format every single tournament.
“Not just as a player, it’s quite tough. With the old format it would be one game, you prepare for one game so you could be at the venue for maybe three or four hours.
“But now you’re prepping for a possible eight or nine hours at the venue, which is quite tough especially when you’ve got tournaments around it. So it’s a little bit repetitive.”
World No.8 Price was later quizzed on whether the PDC had urged players to back the current set-up, which is now in its fifth year.
He added: “They don’t but they probably want you to but I don’t know, it’s something I’ve mentioned in the past.
“I’m enjoying playing the Premier League and playing the last couple of months but it’s not my favourite event. Like I said, it’s a bit repetitive for 16, 17 weeks.”
Price currently sits third in the table after picking up a nightly win in Antwerp.
The former world champ is set to face Gian van Veen on Night Eight in Dublin as he looks to cement his play-off spot to feature at the O2 in May.
