PRICE EYES LONGEVITY WITH PROTOUR STEP BACK

GERWYN PRICE has admitted he will stop attending ProTour events in the future to prolong his career

But ‘The Iceman’ has no plans to retire anytime soon after 11 years on the PDC Tour.

Markham thrower Price turned professional in 2014 after swapping the rugby pitch for the oche.

World No. 11 Price has since won seven PDC major titles including the World Championship at Alexandra Palace in 2021.

When asked if he’d trade a guaranteed Ally Pally triumph for immediate retirement, Price told talkSPORT: “No, I’m sticking around for the next 10 years.

“I mean, one World Championship, it’s not good enough.

“I would never give up totally but the ProTour and Europeans, depending on how many it’s going to be at that time because it’s getting more and more every year, I’ll stop doing those.

“I would never give my Tour Card up. I’d still do events and if they invite me to the Premier League and World Series, I’ll still do them, but none of the lower events and just stop the travelling.”

The 40-year-old has picked up three event wins on the World Series in his career.

‘Gezzy’ is also fresh from his seventh Premier League appearance this year.

Following three nightly wins, Price was beaten by Luke Littler on finals night at the O2 Arena last week.

Price is now looking to become a three-times World Cup champion alongside Jonny Clayton next week in Frankfurt.

The pair who have previously won the tournament in 2020 and 2023 are seeded second and will enter in the second round.
