PRICE HOPES LEANER FRAME CAN SPARK TITLE REVIVAL

GERWYN PRICE believes his dramatic physical transformation could be the key to ending his major trophy drought.

‘The Iceman’ powered past James Hurrell 3-0 in round one of the World Masters, delivering a ruthless display highlighted by a brilliant 108.51 average.

World No.12 Price visibly has a slimmer frame at the oche after months of hard work in the gym.

Price reckons his renewed commitment to fitness could finally pay dividends on the big stage, despite Peter Wright claiming his own weight loss has affected his throw.

He said: “I don’t know the way Peter has lost his weight.

“For me, to lose weight I’m constantly in the gym now, changing proteins and stuff. I need to maintain the muscles that I’m working on.

“I don’t know what Peter is doing but for me it’s working. Other people maybe not.

“We’ve all been out of shape at one time or another in our lives.

“It doesn’t feel good. You don’t have confidence when you’re throwing on stage.

“I’m down to a medium, 34-inch waist, so I’m feeling good now.”

Price is still searching for his next PDC Premier event crown since winning the World Series Finals in 2022 but hopes that wait could soon be over.

He added: “I hope so, yeah. I want to start with some majors and a big tournament. But only time will tell.”

The Markham thrower feels a refreshed mental approach has transformed his game.

He continued: “I felt the same last year.

“I’m a little bit more positive going into events, especially the Premier League.

“Sometimes I’m a little bit negative on myself and social media.

“But I’ve been good over the last 12 months.”

Former world champ Price has even brought back his old walk-on song, ‘Ice Ice Baby’ by Vanilla Ice, convinced it brings him good luck.

He explained: “I think since I had the other music, I’d been losing games, and since I’ve had that back it’s been a bit of a good omen. So yeah, I think that’s it for now.”

Price returns to action on Saturday when he faces Jonny Clayton for a place in the quarter-final at Milton Keynes.
