PRICE SETS SIGHTS ON WELSH TOP SPOT
01/02/2026 By Aaron Nijjar
GERWYN PRICE is hunting down the Welsh No.1 spot as he looks to reassert his dominance on the big stage.
‘The Iceman’ overcame fellow compatriot Jonny Clayton 4-3 to enter the quarter-final of the Winmau World Masters.
World No.12 Price has won their last nine meetings, despite being ranked seven places below Clayton.
Price revealed he wasn’t fully aware of his dominant record against his close friend.
He said: “I did once I’d seen it on social media, but before today, no, I didn’t know.
“I don’t really look at stuff like that because anyone can beat anyone on any given day.
“Maybe both being Welsh and having that pride.
“Jonny’s Welsh number one at the minute, and I want to try and get back there.
“There really are no friends on stage.
“I’m not saying I want to rip someone’s head off like I did when I used to play rugby but I’m up there to win.”
Price enjoyed a brilliant 2025 campaign, claiming four Players Championship titles and being voted PDC ProTour Player of the Year.
The Markham thrower is relishing the chance to feature in the Premier League once again and hopes his lean mean physique will help during long match days.
He added: “The Premier League is totally different. “It’s 16 weeks. It’s tough.
“I’ve been in it a couple of years now. If I weren’t in it, I wouldn’t know what to do with myself.
“I’m just looking forward to getting the campaign underway.
“It’s how you manage your time in between.
“Whether you relax, get a shower, refresh. I’m not sure if it’s to do with fitness, but hopefully it does help.”
Price returns to action on Sunday afternoon and will face Chris Dobey for a spot in the semi-final at Milton Keynes.
