TAYLOR ISSUES WARNING TO LITTLER

PHIL TAYLOR believes Luke Littler will have to be “dedicated for at least 25 years” if he is to surpass his world title record.

World No. 2 Littler failed to defend his Premier League crown as he lost 11-8 to Luke Humphries in the final at London’s O2 Arena on Thursday.

Teen sensation Littler missed out on joining Michael van Gerwen and ‘The Power’ as the only players to win two consecutive titles.

16-time world champion Taylor has now issued a warning to Littler if he is to overtake him in the history books.

The greatest marksman of all time said jokingly of ‘The Nuke’s’ pursuit of his record: “I’ll have him done for that, I’ve got some gruesome friends now!

“If he wants to carry on and win, beat my records, then he’s going to have to be dedicated. And I mean dedicated for at least 25 years.”

The Ally Pally king enjoyed a 31-year professional career between 1987 and 2018.

Taylor won two BDO world titles in 1990 and 1992, before triumphing at the PDC World Championship on 14 occasions between 1995 and 2013.

Warrington whizkid Littler has already won FIVE major titles and became the youngest world champion at just 17-years-old earlier this year.

But Taylor admitted the young prodigy could opt to make a living off social media instead if he wished to.

Littler boasts 1.9 million Instagram followers – nearly double that of Van Gerwen, Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price combined.

87-time major winner Taylor told talkSPORT: “If he gets the right advice and the right person looking after him, then he could do other things, like social media.

“Some people make millions out of it.”

However, Littler has confirmed his future is firmly fixated on darts and pledged to play for at least another 10 years.

And the youngster will represent England alongside Humphries at the World Cup on June 12-15 in Frankfurt.
