MICHAEL van Gerwen vowed there is “more to come” after beating Luke Littler to win Premier League Night Two.
The three-time World Champ beat the Warrington wonderkid 6-5at a sell-out 10,000 Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin.
Van Gerwen is up to second place behind Michael Smith with Littler, after beating world champ Luke Humphries for the third time in a month in the semis, now up to third.
MVG said: “To have games against Luke Littler is always good. I think it was a fantastic night for darts. I feel good but there is more to come.
“Sometimes my energy levels into games has not been too great. You need to find a solution. I know I have the ability but you still have to do it all the time.”
When asked if Littler has a lot of talent, he hit back: “Yeh. Me too. In darts it’s always good to have fresh blood and people who are in form.
“People in form always boost the other players as well. That’s how darts goes. Of course everyone wants to put the pressure on Luke now.”
Littler, who missed two darts at double ten to beat MVG, said: “I didn’t feel at my best. I came in here last night. It’s crazy 10,000-plus. That’s all I like doing is playing in front of a big crowd.
“I just want to win that first game every week so I’m guaranteed two points. If need be win the semi and the final. It’s just about getting points on the board.”
After beating Rob Cross in his opening clash, he added: “I threw well on my own throw. I know I broke Rob once but he came back at me. At the end I just had to hold my throw to win.
“I know Rob he’s always a slow starter and eventually comes back into it.”
Littler battled all the way in the final against the mighty green juggernaut of Van Gerwen. He led 2-0 but the Dutchman stormed back with three legs in succession.
It went all the way to a deciding leg and both hit 180s. MVG missed bull to win it and then Littler missed two at double ten. The Dutchman then sealed it with double four.
Littler had already shown sensational bottle to come through to proper slugfest last leg deciders to reach the final.
Rob Cross pushed him all the way in the quarters before Littler hit double 15 to wrap it up with a powerhouse 104.20 average.
In their fourth meeting this year already, Littler got his third win over Humphries since losing in the world final at the Ally Pally.
