MICHAEL van Gerwen has slammed Peter Wright claiming that he talks “nonsense” and “c**p”.
The Dutch star lashed out at his old foe as both players reached the World Championship quarter-finals at the Ally Pally.
MVG and Wright could yet meet in the final, a repeat of the 2020 clash which the Scot won.
During the press conference on Monday, Van Gerwen was told that Wright had said that Callan Rydz was the favourite for the title.
MVG replied: “What I think about what Peter Wright says?
“Every year at the worlds he talks so much nonsense. Do you know what I mean? He’s always allowed to talk c**p. Do you know what I mean?
“No one takes him seriously on the tour as well because he’s not allowed an opinion at home as well. Do you know what I mean?”
On Wright’s shock win over defending champ Humphries, he added: “Two good players playing against each other, then, yeah, things like that can happen.
“I was surprised with the way how Peter Wright played. I think he played a dominant performance, really fair play to him.
“This was coming from Luke Humphries. He wasn’t performing well all tournament. He couldn’t find the extra gear, so anyone who was going to play well against him would have beaten him.”
