ANDERSON VOWS TO SHUT THE PUNDITS UP AT ALLY PALLY

GARY ANDERSON says he wants one last big run on the major stage to “shut the pundits up” and show he is far from finished.

The two-time world champion admits he no longer lives the darts obsessed lifestyle he once did and can barely find time to practise these days as family life takes priority.

World No 14 Anderson is heavily involved in son Tai’s rapid rise through the junior ranks, with most evenings now spent ferrying him to leagues, events and tournaments.

When asked whether the old guard such as Peter Wright, James Wade and himself had one last hurrah left in them, Anderson replied: “I would hope so just to shut the pundits up.

“I was always on the road playing darts, always practicing with the boys. Now I have so much going on with my life and people do not realise it.

“Honestly there are not enough hours in the day for me to get on to the dartboard. It is as simple as that.

“The kids, I mean Tai is playing darts now, so he won the under 65s on Monday night and then he is out playing for the Winmau League on a Tuesday night.

“Thursday, he has JDC school. Friday he plays for a pub team and then tournaments at the weekend. So, it is hectic.”

Anderson also made it clear he has no intention of spending his retirement hanging around the Robin Park Tennis Centre to watch his son play darts.

He joked: “No I bloody well will not, not a chance. I have told him for two reasons. One, when I retire I am not going to darts and two, he will never be as good as his old man.

“That is just a bit of patter, but no, he is doing really well.”

‘The Flying Scotsman’ has been in great form this year on the ProTour bagging the Players Championship Seven and the European Darts Grand Prix titles.

Anderson is chasing a third World Championship crown and begins his campaign at Ally Pally with a first round showdown against Adam Hunt on December 13.
