ASPINALL DEFIES STOMACH BUG TO ADVANCE IN US MASTERS

NATHAN ASPINALL overcame a brutal stomach bug as he blasted his way into the US Masters quarter-finals.
‘The Asp’ smashed Matt Campbell 6-2 at Madison Square Garden, rattling in eight 180s and averaging 104 to tee up a mouth-watering clash with Luke Littler.
World No. 6 Aspinall admits he’s been glued to the toilet in his hotel room after being floored by suspected food poisoning.
He said: “Full credit to the PDC yesterday. I did my media but then they gave me the night off because I needed it.
“I don’t know what I have got whether it is food poisoning.
“Without being brutal I’ve got my moneys worth out on my toilet in my hotel room.
“I turned up and knew I had a tough game against Matt who is probably the toughest player out the field.
“I knew I had to produce some good numbers and that’s what I have done. The 180s were flowing.
“It was a great game and there was some amazing support from the crowd.
“I am really looking forward to tomorrow.”
The 33-year-old has been in great form this year after securing two European Tour crowns.
Stockport thrower Aspinall previously won the stateside World Series tournament in 2019 and insists his real focus is the World Matchplay next month.
He added: “The confidence this will give me going into the Matchplay will be amazing.
“For me it’s just about keeping the performances up.
“I don’t care if I win the title or not because it is not a ranking tournament.
“But I want to get myself in a position ready for the Matchplay which everyone knows I am defending the ranking money from two years ago.
“I need a strong performance.
“If I keep performing the way I am doing with a semi-final last week, a couple of Euro Tour titles and a ProTour final.
“That will just keep giving me confidence going into the Matchplay.
“So, I am not thinking about winning it yet but when I beat Littler tomorrow we will start thinking about it.”
