ASPINALL IN NEW INJURY SCARE
27/01/2025 By Aaron Nijjar
NATHAN ASPINALL is struggling with an elbow issue and was knocked out in the Dutch Masters by Kevin Doets.
The ‘Asp’ required medical attention in Bahrain after his elbow swelled up on the eve of the opening World Series event where a suspected insect bite left him in pain and uncertain about competing.
Despite the discomfort, Aspinall showed resilience and performed admirably, reaching the quarter-finals of the Bahrain Masters. There, he narrowly lost 6-5 to Luke Humphries, despite averaging an impressive 101.90.
However, the issue has since persisted, forcing him to seek further treatment back in the UK before he headed to the Netherlands.
ITV commentator Dan Dawson explained the situation: “They weren’t quite sure what it was in Bahrain and they’re still not 100 per cent sure what’s caused it, but, even as recently as yesterday (Thursday), it was still causing him problems.
“He had to visit hospital back in the UK this week as well. It is bursitis, so it’s an infection of his elbow. So he’s been taking tablets for it to try and manage the condition, but it looks like something that he’s going to have to deal with for a few weeks.”
World No. 11 Aspinall still took his place in the opening night of the Dutch Masters.
Unfortunately, it was a disappointing outing, as he suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat to Doets, marking an early exit.
Two-time Major winner Aspinall returns to action this Friday in the Winmau World Masters as he locks horns with Andrew Gilding in a battle of former UK Open champions.
