CROSS ADMITS “HORRIFIC” WIN!
18/11/2023 By Phil Lanning
ROB CROSS reckons he played “horrific” despite reeling off TEN successive legs to reach the Grand Slam semis.
The 2018 World Champ was too hot for Aussie DAMON HETA with a 16-6 win in their quarter-final in Wolverhampton last night (Saturday).
Cross, 33, produced the best spell of any player in the event so far and will now face Stephen Bunting in this afternoon’s (Sunday) last four clash.
He said: “It honestly feels like I played horrific in my head!
“Damon came out and kept it close. I felt like the first the legs it was top wire all the time and wouldn’t go in for me.
“Winning ten legs in a row, 100 per cent Bobby has still got it. It’s definitely in there.
“Realistically I wasn’t happy with the performance at the start. I’ll take it, wake up tomorrow and it’s a different day.
“I feel like I’ve been saying for the last six weeks, I am in a really good place. Tonight I found it a little bit stressful.
“Obviously the semis and final all in one day is going to be tough. I’ve never experienced it before so I can’t say I’m ready for it. I think I’ll be alright. I’m calm and collected.”
BUNTING admitted it “means the world” to reach his first TV event semi-final in two years.
The ex-Lakeside World Champ breezed past STOWE BUNTZ 16-8 and said: “It means the world, I’ve been putting in a lot of effort back home. I can’t wait for the semi-finals now.
“I had a bit of fatigue and a bit of nerves playing Stowe. There’s been a lot made of this match and I’ve been a heavy favourite going into the game.
“I still didn’t know what to expect from Stowe. I just said to him at the end of the match he’s a friend now.
“We’ve had two games on the stage and I wish him good luck in the rest of his career and in the World Championship.
“People keep telling me that I’m going to make a final blah, blah, blah. I still need to get up here and do it.
“There’s no better than than Wolverhampton to go to a final. Hopefully I can do it this week.”
It’s the first all-English PDC semi-finals line-up for a decade. The other afternoon last four clash will be between James Wade and Luke Humphries with the final at 7pm.
