CROSS FEELS LIKE A “SEXY BOY” ON THE BIG STAGE

ROB CROSS admits he feels like a “SEXY BOY” at the oche after rediscovering his form.

‘Voltage’ reached the quarter-final of a major for the first time in 15 months before falling 10-9 to James Wade in a thriller at the UK Open.

World No.20 Cross looked dangerous again in Minehead, claiming the scalps of Gian van Veen, Mike De Decker and Daryl Gurney — all previous PDC Premier event winners.

Cross admitted he has been working hard behind the scenes to improve his mindset and get back to his best on the big stage.

He said: “I have changed a lot at home and I am under a new regime. I’m working hard behind the scenes mentally.

“It’s helping me be great. I feel better and that I don’t have a load on my head every single day of the week.

“I am a lot calmer. It’s a long road. What I am doing already, I am signed up to until the end of the year.

“I understand it is not going to be a quick fix. But if I can get a few results and a bit of confidence and other stuff.

“I still maintain I have the game. I see it while I am practising. I see little bursts. We all have to understand sometimes Rome ain’t built in a day.”

The former world champ endured a tough season last year which saw him plummet down the rankings and be omitted from the Premier League lineup.

Cross insists he is not putting pressure on himself to return to his glory days and instead wants to focus on enjoying his darts again after a difficult spell.

He added: “I think that is very important. I am not going to stress myself. If I can get up there and enjoy it like I have been. I have been celebrating and all.

“I’m a sexy little boy at the minute. But at the same time, it’s about enjoying it. It’s being able to be in a scrap and come out on top.

“I have done that so far. It’s about getting that backbone back. You never lose how to play darts.

“But if your wires are all crossed upstairs, it is never going to come out fully. I am working on them at the minute.

“I am in a comfortable place. It is moving in the right direction at the minute. My family is all good, so that is the main thing. Who cares?”
