DARTS ACE ADMITS GURNEY HAS UNDERACHIEVED AT OCHE

PAUL NICHOLSON reckons Daryl Gurney has massively underachieved at the oche.

Two-times major winner Gurney last won an individual crown in 2019 at the Players Championship 25 in Barnsley.

‘Superchin’ has claimed six PDC titles, most recently winning the World Cup of Darts alongside Josh Rock for Northern Ireland earlier this year.

Former pro Nicholson believes Gurney’s trophy cabinet doesn’t reflect the level of skill he displays on the big stage.

He said: “To be fair to Gurney we have been saying for a couple of years that something is brewing.

“If it doesn’t amount to a title or something really big soon we are going to keep putting that question mark up against him.

“We all love his game and commitment but for all of the effort you want titles.

“He doesn’t have enough for the career he has had.

“He only has two Players Championship titles to his name.

“I am not kidding when I say Gurney is a better player than two Players Championships won in his career.

“For his prowess in the Premier League and various different formats in the game I don’t think he has won enough.”

Gurney failed to reach a quarter-final in any of the four individual majors he has competed in this year.

The Derry thrower was most recently dumped out in the first round of the World Matchplay after losing 10-7 to Gerwyn Price in a heated affair.

World No. 27 Gurney has also made just two quarter-finals on the ProTour in 2025 which is way below par for a player of his talent.
