DIMI FIGHTING FOR TOUR CARD SURVIVAL AT UK OPEN
03/03/2026 By Aaron Nijjar
DIMITRI VAN DEN BERGH could be exiting the professional ranks, according to ex-pro Matt Edgar.
The Belgian star, who lifted the UK Open title in 2024 by defeating Luke Humphries in the final, has endured a dramatic downturn over the past year.
World No.26 Van den Bergh has suffered FIVE consecutive first-round exits at Players Championship events this season and failed to qualify for five major televised tournaments last year.
‘The Dreammaker’ faces a crucial week at Butlins, Minehead, needing a strong performance to defend his prize money and avoid a significant drop in the rankings.
Edgar fears Dimi is at real risk of losing his Tour Card and says his throw is “all over the place” at the moment.
He said on Edgar TV: “There is £110,000 due to come off the Order of Merit for Dimitri van den Bergh.
“He can genuinely lose his Tour Card this year if things go against him.
“The way he is playing at the moment, you wouldn’t suggest he is going to pick up the prize money to make himself any safer.
“He is due to drop even further — estimating here coming down towards the 38–40 position — which means he won’t be seeded for the World Championship.
“He is not in the World Matchplay or the World Grand Prix, so money is coming off all year for Dimitri van den Bergh.
“He is in serious trouble. I recently commentated on Dimitri van den Bergh on the ProTour.
“The throw was pretty much all over the place. It wasn’t quite there, so there are worrying signs for Dimitri van den Bergh.”
Van den Bergh gets his campaign underway at the upcoming PDC Premier event on Friday, March 6, looking to make an immediate impact.
