DIMITRI Van den Bergh has stepped away from professional darts to focus on his health and well-being.
Two-time major winner Van den Bergh will take an indefinite break from the PDC circuit.
Former pro Vincent van der Voort confirmed the news on the Darts Draait Door podcast on Sportnieuws.nl.
He said: “He’s stepping back to work on his health and on himself.
“I think it’s a gutsy move. The lad’s just run out of steam.
“Things haven’t been going his way lately, and sometimes you need to be strong enough to say: I’m taking a step back.”
Concerns had been growing over Van den Bergh’s form and appearance in recent months.
World No. 20 Van den Bergh withdrew from the Players Championship 13 against José De Sousa just four minutes prior to play.
The Belgian thrower is now at risk of falling down the Order of Merit due to having an extended period off away from the oche.
Van der Voort acknowledged that this could add further pressure.
He added: “That sort of thing brings added stress.
“There are plenty of players who just keep pushing and pushing. Dimitri’s hit that point where he’s had enough.
“It’s better to take a step back, reset, and then come back stronger.”
‘The Dreammaker’ has struggled on the ProTour this year, failing to progress beyond the third round in any of the 12 events he’s played.
Dimi’s 2025 average sits at just 89.62, ranking him 96th on tour — a figure that falls well short of reflecting his true talent.
Former UK Open champ Van den Bergh has only won 11 out of 28 matches this year further highlighting his struggles.
Although, Van Den Bergh did make the semi-final of the World Masters in February.
