FALLON: DON’T BOO BOBBY
14/11/2023 By Phil Lanning
FALLON SHERROCK doesn’t want the fans to boo Rob Cross as she bids for the biggest win of her career.
The Queen of the Palace faces Voltage in a shoot-out to qualify from the group stages of the Grand Slam in Wolverhampton tonight.
Sherrock, 29, has never beaten a World Champion on the big stage and now reckons she can cope with the pressure against ‘Bobby’ Cross.
On the crowd jeering, she said: “It shouldn’t be like that. I want it just to be another person playing a game of darts. No one wants to be booed unless their persona is like the bad person.
“Rob is probably going to produce his A game. But I’ve had Michael van Gerwen throw his A game at me and I felt like I did well with that.
“I’m hoping going into the Rob game that I can produce the same back and see what the result is.
“Hopefully I can get one of those grind out wins.
“I don’t know how I do it but under pressure I feel like I am a better player.
“In some games when I’m not under pressure, that’s when I lose them. When I’m under pressure I produce something special sometimes.
“I’ve just got to take one game as it comes. If I beat Rob that would be a great thing on my record. I don’t think I’ve beaten a World Champion on TV yet.
“Obviously if I can have a good run here this would be great preparation for the Worlds.
“No matter who I get at the Worlds, I know I can produce my A game.
“At the start of the year I’m alright but in the middle I always sort of fall off a bit.
“But at the end of the year I find this inner belief, dig deep and grind out wins.
“I think the shorter format gives extra entertainment because people are used to watching the longer format.
“I play the Women’s Series so that is great preparation for this tournament.”
Sherrock also agrees with Michael van Gerwen that men should not be “ashamed” anymore to lose to a woman on the big stage.
She added: “I think it’s still a big thing because women haven’t had the opportunities to play men, it’s still kind of a new thing. When it does happen it’s a big shock to the system.
“The more women you see on stage and the more they win, it will just become the norm and not so much hype around it.
Hopefully in the future it won’t be such a big deal when a woman wins on the stage. It will just become the norm.
“The more woman that win on TV hopefully the less pressure on me.”
