GILDING INSISTS HE IS NO PHIL TAYLOR

16/05/2026 By Aaron Nijjar

ANDREW GILDING insists he is “no Phil Taylor” despite producing some huge performances during a sensational start to the year.

The world No27 has been one of the standout stars on the PDC circuit in 2026 after finally landing his maiden ProTour crown at Players Championship 16.

Goldinger also reached the final of Players Championship 6 and made quarter-finals at both the German Darts Grand Prix and the Austrian Darts Open.

The former UK Open champ also smashed in a stunning 118.70 average against Joe Cullen at Players Championship 13, the second-highest PDC average recorded in 2026.

But despite his blistering form, Gilding admits he still has no idea which version of himself will turn up on any given day.

He said: “I mean, I thought I was quite consistent, but I had a huge average on the ProTour recently, then 80 yesterday and then 100 today.

“So, I never really know what I’m going to do. Yeah, it just depends what happens really.

“Those big averages just come every now and again. I mean, I’m no Phil Taylor. I can’t do them back to back.”

Gilding will be aiming to reach a third consecutive quarter-final at the World Matchplay in July, further underlining the remarkable consistency he has shown on the big stage.

The Norfolk thrower returns to action on Monday at Players Championship 17 in Leicester.
