JORDAN WANTS LITTLER TO BE FIT AND HEALTHY

SIMON JORDAN says he is “guilty” if wanting Luke Littler to be “fit and healthy” is a crime.
The former Crystal Palace owner has responded after Littler revealed he had considered quitting darts following months of abuse from fans.
World No.1 Littler admitted he had thought about walking away from the sport after being subjected to boos and heckles both inside arenas and online during this year’s Premier League campaign.
The teen sensation has also faced scrutiny over his appearance, with Jordan arguing that one of darts’ biggest stars should be promoting an active lifestyle as a role model for young fans.
He told talkSPORT: “The fact of the matter is I am just telling the truth. I would like to see a young man in his pomp being fit and healthy.
“If that is a crime then I am guilty of a crime. If people want to turn around and say that is awful fat shaming.
“I think people should look after themselves. I think I should look after myself better. There is nothing wrong with that.
“He is a brilliant darts player. When you advance him as a poster boy which they try to do for young darts players wouldn’t it be nice to see them all looking healthy and vital.
“And having a generation of young people that look healthy and vital so they become healthy and vital adults.”
Jordan argued that being the biggest name inevitably brings increased scrutiny and attention on the oche.
He added: “As far as the abuse he is experiencing we don’t know whether because it is the aesthetics. The fact is he is the No.1 darts player in the world.
“It might come with territory. I have had conversations with James Wade when I did Up Front and the challenges he has had on the circuit. How he reacts to the pressure of being a darts player.
“It is a very difficult thing to play individual sports because you are on your own. Golfers, tennis players, even cricketers that are facing a bowler.
“It is a one-on-one competition. It is a difficult thing to do so you have to give them a lot of respect to the manner they operate.
“But this is the world they chose to operate in. Don’t be a darts player then. Go be a food taster.”
