LAWRIE DEFIES GAMESMANSHIP TO REACH LAKESIDE SEMIS

06/12/2025 By Aaron Nijjar

MITCHELL LAWRIE accused his opponent of trying to slow him down after powering into the semi-finals at Lakeside.

The 15-year-old continued his fairytale run at the WDF World Championship, beating Belgian star Francois Schweyen 4-0 with a 92.06 average and dropping only three legs in the entire match.

Scottish sensation Lawrie is on track to become the youngest ever world champion and take home a whopping £50,000 top prize.

Lawrie insisted No.10 seed Schweyen’s attempts to disrupt his rhythm backfired badly.

He said: “Do you know what? I wasn’t even frustrated.

“I think I let his pace get to me, and then as soon as I stopped letting his pace get to me, it was easy to be honest.

“He tried to slow me down. I think it’s because he thinks I’m not as experienced as him and maybe because I’m only 15.

“But I get people everywhere that try and do that to me. It doesn’t affect me at all.

“110%. He put himself off more than what he put me off, to be honest.

“I had to keep my cool. Obviously you can get a bit annoyed when people try to slow you down or do tactics.

“He is a nice enough guy off the oche. On the oche obviously he really wants to win. If that is what he has to do, that is what he has to do.”

Lawrie is gearing up for a semi-final against fellow teenager Jenson Walker on Saturday.

He added: “I know it’ll be a great game because we’re both big power scorers.

“Jensen is really one of the best players in this building.

“I believe he will get a Tour Card when he’s older and he will go on to do more stuff.”
