LITTLER TAKES BREAK FOR ORLANDO!

LUKE LITTLER admits he will take a break from the oche to avoid burnout.

The teen sensation is preparing for the US Darts Masters in New York tomorrow night.

Littler, 17, will face Matt Campbell in his opener, a repeat of their World Championship clash at the Ally Pally.

But just a week after winning the Premier League, the Warrington wonderkid revealed he will monitor his schedule to avoid getting too tired.

He said: “Next week we are going to Orlando for a week. There is a competition on the weekend but I said to my manager: ‘Can I have a week off?’ I don’t want to play, I want to go on holiday.

“I can pick and choose what I want to play from now on as my ranking is good. And I have qualified for almost every event. I can pick and choose.

“If the travelling is killing me off, then I will just have a week off.

“After Orlando, I land back Tuesday and then Wednesday fly off to Poland. There is no off-season. You have to pick and choose what you want to play in.”

Littler is enjoying his time in the Big Apple and also reflected on his passion for UFC and previously Wrestlemania.

He added: “It’s my first time in New York. It has been good. Went on a trip to see the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge. It has been a good experience.

“New York is so much bigger than London.

“It’s crazy to watch the boxing and UFC on TV at Madison Square Garden. That has been there for a few years.

“I am there this year to put my name on it and say that I have performed there. I don’t know what to expect from the crowd.

“Orlando is where my walk-on song came from. We went over to watch Wrestlemania, Raw and Smackdown on the Monday and Tuesday. I wouldn’t say I’m a big fan now. When lockdown hit, I fell out of love with it. I didn’t like the screens. I kind of know what’s going on. I have watched near enough from 29 up until now.

“I was at school this time last year. I could have gone to college after high school. But I chose not to as I won my PDC Tour Card and obviously got to the World Championship final. So I can be a darts player. I could have been in college now, doing some coursework, messing around.

“I didn’t expect to get to the World Championship final. Not a chance.

“I am so young, I don’t really look at what I have done. I know deep down what I have done. It is on to the next non-stop.

“Do I get nervous? Not really. I just love playing in front of thousands and thousands and just thrive off it. I just turn up.

“Sometimes I like the attention. But when I get stopped in the street constantly, I think to myself, let me get on with my day. We have got lives to do. I do like it sometimes but it does get a bit over the top.

“Some of them are kind. Then you meet the drunk ones.”
