WESSEL NIJMAN insists it’s just a “matter of time” before he wins a big major.
The lanky Dutchman edged out Gerwyn Price 8-7 in a deciding leg to win Players Championship 2 in Hildesheim.
Nijman, 25, picked up his first PDC senior title against Price who had been on fire all day.
The Welshman had earlier smashed Michael van Gerwen 6-0 with a stunning 117.12 average. He also managed a 111 average in the victory over Luke Woodhouse.
Nijman said: “It means a lot it really does. I read in the group chats and saw that Gerwyn beat Michael (van Gerwen) 6-0 in a phenomenal match.
“When I reach the final I’m already happy to be honest. I gave him a game and I was the winner in the end.
“I’m really happy with the way I played today. The main goal was to keep my tour card and make it into the top 64.
“I reset it to top 32 and now I’m resetting it to the top 16. I’m close to the top 24 now. I want to improve a lot on big games.
“You cannot play like this on the floor and then things won’t happen on big stages.
“I’m not really worried about not performing on big stages. I think it’s just a matter of time.”
James Hurrell hit a nine-darter in his round one tie against Maik Kuivenhoven. Gabriel Clemens hit a nine-darter in his round three tie against Madars Razma.
