PRICE CHASES ELUSIVE AMERICAN CROWN

26/06/2025 By Aaron Nijjar

GERWYN PRICE is determined to finally get his hands on a title in America.

World No. 11 Price is back for another crack as the World Series returns to Madison Square Garden on Friday.

‘The Iceman’ came agonisingly close to US Darts Masters glory in 2024 after losing 8-7 to Rob Cross in the final.

Seven-times major winner Price is backing himself to go one further this year and secure a maiden crown in the United States.

He said: “I was a little bit gutted last year. It was a tournament I threw away.

“I’m back here again which is nice. It’s great to have the invite and hopefully lift the trophy.

“I’ve won in every country just not in America.

“I’m playing well enough and enjoying my darts.

“I’m enjoying travelling so fingers crossed it all comes together.”

Former world champion Price has been in scintillating form throughout the season.

The 40-year-old heads to New York fresh from helping Wales reach the World Cup final alongside Jonny Clayton earlier this month.

Markham thrower Price has won THREE Players Championship events and reached the Premier League semi-finals after collecting three nightly victories.

Price admits his newfound positive mindset at the oche has improved his performances.

He added: “Don’t get me wrong, it’s difficult throughout the Premier League trying to balance everything.

“I think going from the Premier League to ProTour events and Europeans.

“But I have been a lot more positive this year which has definitely helped.

“I just need to find my best form when the Premier League is behind us, so fingers crossed that is what will happen the rest of this week and the year.

“It is tough being in the Premier League. It has not been great to me the last couple of years.

“I’ve been a bit too down on myself when I have been travelling but this year, I am a lot more positive.

“Not just for myself but off the fans and everything which is good.”
