SEARLE TIPPED FOR WORLD SERIES CALL-UP

RYAN SEARLE should be handed a World Series call-up, according to ex-pro Chris Mason.

‘Heavy Metal’ stormed to the semi-finals of the PDC World Darts Championship before being swept aside 6–1 by Luke Littler.

World No.12 Ryan Searle has also made a strong start to the ProTour campaign, reaching the semi-finals of Players Championship Two earlier this month.

Mason believes Searle has done enough to earn a shot on the global stage and insists the Devon thrower has the game to shine overseas.

The former World Matchplay semi-finalist has also tipped Searle for a breakthrough European title this year.

He said: “You can sort of try to do it in stages. Some people do it back to front. [Martin] Schindler won a European Tour before he won a ProTour.

“Ryan would want to win on the Euro Tour. He has been close so many times and played some fabulous matches.

“He went very close against Peter Wright, of course, being edged out in a final leg in a TV final. So it is there. It is in the locker.

“You would hope he gets a look in at some of the World Series events this year, or more than you would expect.”

Searle had been linked with a Premier League place following his Ally Pally run but felt his FACE did not quite fit the line-up.

He added: “I’ve kind of said privately that the Premier League is something that I would like to do once, just to say that I’ve done it.

“Whether it’s this year or not… if you look at Chris Dobey last year, he kind of had a similar path to me, where in previous majors he didn’t do a huge amount and then got to the Worlds and made a semi and they put him in.

“Not sure whether my face fits for that, but we’ll see what happens.”

Searle returns to action on Wednesday at the Players Championship Five in Leicester.
