VAN GERWEN ADMITS HE’S BEEN “SLOPPY”

MIGHTY Michael van Gerwen admits that SLOPPINESS has led to his slump in form.

The three-time world champ has failed to hit his usual heights since winning a record-breaking seventh Premier League in May.

He crashed out in the first round of the Matchplay, second round of the Grand Prix and Grand Slam.

After winning his opening Players Championship clash against Callan Rydz, he admitted: “I’ve had a really poor four or five months to be honest after July.

“It’s not really gone my way but that’s part of darts. You need to try and change it your way.

“You need to put more time into it, more practice, more dedication. Everyone will see a better Michael van Gerwen in the World Championship.

“Sometimes you go into a game too sloppy, not good enough. That has to be out of my game.

“Every game has to be like a world final and that’s how I want to approach games. It’s not always that easy but that’s what you have to go.

“You have to look back in the mirror and say, hey, things have to get better.

“Of course I still play better than the average dart players but still you want to do better, you want to win titles.

“I’m probably the most criticised player in the world. I always blame myself, I never blame anything else and you need to be responsible for your own mistakes.”
