WADE HAPPY TO NOT FACE ELVIS AGAIN

JAMES WADE admits he is glad Elvis is not in the building before he faces Luke Humphries.

The Aldershot ace takes on the on-form ‘Cool Hand’ in the Players Championship quarter-finals in Minehead today.

But Wade, 40, revealed that watching an Elvis lookalike on stage before their last clash at the Grand Slam drove him “mental”.

On facing Humphries, he said: “I know what I’ve got to do. Hopefully this time I haven’t got Elvis on the stage which absolutely drove me mental the last time I played him.

“I’m not bothered by him. I’ve got the utmost respect for him. I would say he’s one of the very best players in the world at the moment.

“I put him up there with Gezzy Price, which is phenomenal. Luke is a great player.”

Wade typically ground out a win over Dimitri Van den Bergh on Saturday night to set up his clash with Hump.

He added: “I played awful in the last one. I got nervous, apprehensive. I got all of those things you shouldn’t get.

“I’m going to go back and cook myself a bacon, sausage and egg sandwich.

“I’m surprised he got that close to me, if I’m honest with you.

“I watched some great dart players today. It’s hard going on last game of the night.

“Let’s not kid ourselves, it’s bloody hard work. It’s the closest you’ll get to a day’s work. Tonight I was tired.

“I’ve been average but I’m finishing quite well. I’m probably a bit more lucky than others.

“I’ve never been a confident person and I’m not confident about playing Luke either. I know I’ve got to play bloody well. I will be a little bit more alert and awake.”
