30 YEARS OF AWARD-WINNING JOURNALISM IN DARTS

WILLIAMS REVEALS HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO PRO DARTS SUCCESS

SCOTT WILLIAMS had an incredible journey from working in a warehouse to becoming one of the top players in darts.

World No. 37 Williams won his first ProTour title in 2022 at the Players Championship 17 in Niedernhausen and has never looked back since.

‘Shaggy’ has come a long way from his humble beginnings as he made the semi-final of the World Championship last year and the quarter-final of the Players Championship Finals.

The 35-year-old told the Daily Star he still has to pinch himself that darts is his job.

He said: “I have worked hard. I worked in a warehouse and for most of my adult life darts was just a hobby. And then I found out I was good at it.

“I still look at it a bit weird, that it is my job and it is what I do and a team like Target were happy to take me on when I was just an amateur, because they could see the potential that I had.

“I owe them a lot, as well as my family and friends who have supported me throughout the journey.”

There are few players like Williams when at the oche – if that’s his no-look 180s or unique routes to checkouts.

The showman admitted he just stays true to himself when on the big stage.

He revealed: “That’s exactly it, it’s my personality.

“I’m quite crazy, I’m quite different, and I don’t follow the rules if I can help it!

“I’m not a keyboard warrior. I’m not an NPC! I have my own thoughts, my own ideas…If I want to do stuff, and it’s within the rules a little bit, then I’ll do it!

“It does get me in trouble, has got me in trouble, and probably will continue to get me in trouble – but I’m there; I’m a different personality.”
