WRIGHT HAS HUNGER AND FIGHT

PETER WRIGHT blasted he’s got the “hunger and fight” after the hurtful jibes that he’s finished.

‘Snakebite’ lashed out at the weekend after ITV pundit Chris Mason claimed he shouldn’t have been picked for the Premier League ahead of Chris Dobey.

Wright, 53, has suffered a tough run of form over the past year but showed much improved form in the narrow defeat to Luke Humphries in the Premier League in Berlin.

But he hit back, saying: “I could have quite easily said I’m retiring after the World Championship.

“But I thought ‘no, I’m ready to fight’. I want to show them I’m not finished and I’m still here to upset them.

“There’s hunger and fight. I’ve not retired, I’m not rolling over.

“Yes I played rubbish in the Premier League. But I was nervous as hell.

“I was trying a few things behind the scenes and I was shaking.

“It’s hurtful to hear or see the things that are said. That’s why I want to prove people wrong. I want to show them up.

“There’s loads to come this year. I will win loads of titles.

“I will get picked for the Premier League again. You need to win titles for that.”

Humphries admitted after his Ally Pally triumph that Wright and his wife Jo were supportive to him when he struggled during his early days.

Wright added: “I’ve always got on well with Luke. I respect all the practice he’s done and the weight he has lost.

“He has shown dedication which shows other players if you do that you can get results.

“I am trying the same. I am cutting down on fizzy drinks, no more sugar. Just to lose a bit of weight.

“They say it’s a young man’s game because of Luke Littler. I dye my hair and beard to look younger!”
