PETER WRIGHT wants to be a “threat” again after being inspired by new oche hero Luke Littler.
The two-time World Champ Snakebite was speaking for the first time about the 16-year-old Warrington wonderkid ahead of the Bahrain Masters on Thursday.
Wright, 53, revealed that he wants to end his nightmare run of form after being dazzled by Littler and Luke Humphries’ World Championship exploits.
He said: “I watched the World Championship after I got knocked out and Luke Littler and Luke Humphries inspired me with what they did.
“Especially Humphries with his form over the past few months, it proves what you can do and achieve if you put the hard work in.
“Luke Littler is the best thing I’ve ever seen on TV. That’s why I’m inspired if I get my finger out. I want new trophies.
“I took time off last year and it didn’t work, we saw that in the Premier League. This year I am hitting everything again.
“Fingers crossed my mindset is to use one set of darts. If I can manage that all year, I’ll be happy and I can be a big threat to everyone.”
Livingston-born Wright was speaking after being invited on HMS Lancaster in Bahrain and will be watched by naval officers in his opening match after drawing Haruki Muramatsu.
He added: “I’m looking forward to playing, last year was terrible and the year before that was also terrible.
“Obviously Chris Dobey, Joe Cullen, them guys have been playing really well but didn’t get picked. I guess they need an old guy to show the young ones around still!
“It was a privilege to invited on board HMS Lancaster. I was shown round the ship, all the different compartments and apparently some of the guys are coming to the darts as well.”
