KING REVEALS BEST ADVICE FOR ASPIRING DARTS PLAYERS

MERVYN KING has revealed the best piece of advice he would give any aspiring darts player.

The oche veteran joked young stars should ‘get a proper accountant’ after battling back from bankruptcy last year following a £500,000 unpaid tax bill from HMRC.

‘The King’ later admitted he did not realise he had to pay tax on winnings earned throughout his darts career, leaving him fearing for both his home and his three dogs.

But the 60-year-old completed an emotional return to the professional circuit earlier this year after reaching the semi-finals on the final day of Q School in Milton Keynes.

King admitted regaining his Tour Card meant everything to him.

He told BigJake on TikTok: “It was absolutely brilliant. I was so emotional. I slogged my guts out for four days and I managed to fall over the line on the last day.

“I doubled my points and just got my Tour Card and that meant the absolute world to me.”

The Suffolk thrower has endured a tricky start to the season, with his best result so far being a last-16 finish at Players Championship Eight.

But Mervyn King believes he still has what it takes to qualify for major televised events.

He added: “I hope so. It hasn’t gone my way as of yet but I am still hitting the 100-plus averages so the game is still there even at 60 years old.

“If I can just find a longer stretch than a day where I used to be able to call on the gears, now they turn up when they want to not when I want them to.

“If they turn up for more than a day at a time then who knows maybe.”
