CLAYTON REVEALS WIFE VETOED DREAM WALK-ON!

JONNY CLAYTON reckons he could’ve pocketed thousands more in the Premier League — if only his wife hadn’t vetoed his walk-on song of choice.

World No. 5 Clayton revealed that his original pick was none other than Mr Brightside by The Killers — now famously used by Nathan Aspinall.

However, Clayton says his other half, Ellen, wasn’t keen on the idea.

The Welshman lifted the Premier League title in 2021 but hasn’t featured in the prestigious event for the past two years.

He told the Tops and Tales podcast: “Well, right, you couldn’t believe this or not, but I think Ellen, my wife, has cost me thousands in the Premier League because the walk-on song I wanted was Mr Brightside.

“Serious to God. So I blame Ellen.

“Yeah, it was Mr Brightside, and she said ‘No, I think something else. I don’t think that would be good.’

“So it’s her fault. So yeah, that’s true. Mr Brightside.”

‘The Ferret’ even confided in Aspinall about the musical rejection.

He added: “I have told Nathan. Yeah, he just laughs. He goes, ‘Thank you, Ellen.’”

Four-times major winner Clayton currently walks on to Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry — a nod to his name and a tune that’s earned plenty of fans on the Euro Tour and beyond.

He said: “It’s still iconic in its own way, you know.

“It’s got my name in it.”

Clayton has been in sensational form this year on the ProTour.

The 50-year-old won Players Championship 14 in April before sealing his third European Tour crown at last month’s Dutch Darts Championship.
