BIG RIVAL TIPS ANDERSON TO WIN ANOTHER MAJOR TITLE

19/08/2025 By Aaron Nijjar

RYAN SEARLE insists Gary Anderson still has a “major in him” and can win another World Championship crown.

‘The Flying Scotsman’s’ last triumph at a PDC televised ranked event came at the now-discontinued Champions League of Darts in 2018.

World No. 12 Anderson is yet to get past the fourth round in any of the four majors he’s contested in 2025, with his only victory coming against Luke Woodhouse at the World Matchplay.

But close pal Searle reckons Ando has rediscovered his passion for the sport and says he remains a nightmare whenever they face off on the practice board.

He told the Tops and Tales podcast: “I think he fell out of love with the game for a little while. It’s just good to get him back on the board. Darts is a better place with Gary Anderson playing his best in it.

“He batters me pretty much every time we practice. When we first started practicing, it was fairly even then all of a sudden, I think it was last year I went nearly a year without winning a practice session.

“I was still playing really well on the tour. I was winning events. I was reaching those finals and stuff, so it wasn’t really bothering me that much.”

Former Players Championship Finals runner-up Searle tipped Ando to lift the Sid Waddell Trophy for a third time at Ally Pally.

He added: “He’s one of the best players to ever play the game and with very minimal effort as well.

“He did say that he’s starting to enjoy the game a lot more now and I still believe now that he’s got a major in him.

“Even the World Championship, I think that’s something he’s more than capable of winning.

“Luke Humphries and Luke Littler I think they’re the main two at the minute. I think you can put Gezzy Price in there as well. Johnny Clayton is starting to play well again.

“But you can put Gary up there with them and on his day, I don’t think even they will beat him.

“I would love to see Luke Littler against Gary Anderson in the World Championship final with them both playing at their very best. I think that would be great to see.”

Eight-times major winner Anderson has been in great form on the ProTour already bagging the Players Championship Seven and the European Darts Grand Prix titles.
