LUKE HUMPHRIES admits he flapped before cementing his spot at the top of the Premier League.
The World No.1 came through an epic top-of-the-table game on Night Four to defeat Gerwyn Price by a 6-4 scoreline.
Despite the night being just two games old, Humphries’ win guaranteed he’d stay top of the table at the end of the evening.
With Price second in the standings and third-placed Michael van Gerwen beaten in the opening match of the Exeter event, Cool Hand’s victory over The Iceman keeps him on the summit.
However, it was a nervy finish as both players missed chances with Humphries also missing a big number as he fumbled around trying to close the gap out.
Price also wobbled and the victor said: “Yeah, I can explain it. You want two points, you’re desperate for it.
“Sometimes you’re desperate to get over the line and a couple of moments there, they were right on the wire, especially that double 18 and the double nine. Then I missed this big one.
“But we’re always under pressure and sometimes it tells. I flapped a little bit at the end. But you know, I got lucky that he missed six darts.
“I always want to win every game too much, to be honest. I want to do really well this year in the Premier League, so for me, maybe I did want that game too much in the end because obviously he beat me last week and I felt like I was pretty poor last week.
“My scoring was better this week. Doubles were okay, but it’s all forgotten now. I won again. That’s what matters.”
