CROSS BACKS HIMSELF FOR MORE MAJORS AFTER SLOVAK RUN

22/06/2026 By Aaron Nijjar

ROB CROSS joked he needs to “get on the treadmill” after falling short in the Slovak Open final.
Voltage was beaten 8-3 by Wessel Nijman despite producing a superb 102.57 average as the Dutch youngster claimed his second European Tour title.
Former World Champ Cross landed his first ProTour crown in 16 months at Players Championship 22 last week and followed it up with another brilliant run in Bratislava.
Cross was full of praise for Nijman afterwards, admitting the heat and his opponent’s energy levels proved decisive.
He said: “Wessel played great there. For me I am trying to lose a bit of timber but this heat ain’t helping me and he is a fit young man.
“Fair play to him, he just punished me and did what he had to do.”
Despite missing out on the trophy, Cross believes he is finding his rhythm ahead of next month’s World Matchplay.
He added: “I don’t enjoy the heat, but the crowd this weekend have been fantastic.
“It wasn’t my weekend, but things are heading in the right direction.
“I wouldn’t say I’m at my peak at the minute, but I’m starting to get there.
“I won a title in the week, another final today, and this was good practice for the World Matchplay, obviously winning it before.
“I am definitely going to have to get on the treadmill and sort myself out!”
Cross also revealed improvements away from the oche have helped him regain confidence on the big stage.
He added: “I am getting there. It is all hard work and the cogs are moving well in the background with the family and stuff.
“Things are getting easier and better and I appreciate that and all the family.
“It’s just the beginning again, and I’m sure I have got many more majors left in me.”
