HUMPHRIES BLASTED FOR ‘COWARDLY’ STATEMENT AFTER CROWD COMPLAINTS

LUKE HUMPHRIES has been blasted for issuing a “cowardly statement” after hitting out at disruptive fans during the Nordic Darts Masters.
The world No.2 cut a frustrated figure following his dramatic 8-7 defeat to Michael van Gerwen in Saturday night’s final in Copenhagen.
Cool Hand had complained about crowd behaviour after the match, claiming top players are becoming “fed up” with whistles and other distractions from the stands.
But former pro Vincent van der Voort was left unimpressed after the former world champion posted a more conciliatory message on social media less than 24 hours later.
Humphries wrote on X: “Sorry for the emotion on the stage today guys.. I want to congratulate @MvG180 on a fantastic win tonight!! Fully deserved win.
“I hope everyone understands that I just want to give you all the best games and the best entertainment!
“It’s been a hard few months for me trying to find myself again, I’m close to being where I want to be and I want to thank all my fans for the continued support! 🫶🏻❤️
“See you next weekend at the World Cup👍🏻”
The Dutchman believes Humphries weakened his argument by softening his stance the following day.
He told the Darts Draait Door Podcast: “He was quite irritated; he was completely fed up with the crowd.
“Even afterwards in his interview. You could see it on his face: he wasn’t in the mood for anything.
“Afterwards, he came out with such a cowardly statement on his social media in which he thanked the fans after all.
“That is all being handled by his management. I actually think it’s good that he says it for once.
“That they come to Copenhagen to entertain the crowd and then get booed every time. Then you shouldn’t backtrack on your statement the very next day.”
Humphries returns to action on Saturday when he teams up with Luke Littler to represent England at the World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt.
