LITTLER TIPPED FOR EARLY RETIREMENT FROM DARTS

LUKE LITTLER has been sensationally tipped to quit darts in his ‘mid-20s’ despite looking set to dominate the oche.
Former pro Matt Edgar believes the teenage superstar will outgrow the sport and quit at the very peak of his powers.
World No. 2 Littler has won SIX major titles and three Euro Tour crowns at just 18-years-old.
But Edgar reckons Littler’s career will be “short lived” as his profile will become too big for the game.
He said on the Mission Darts podcast: “I don’t think Luke will be around that long. I think it will be very short lived.
“I think he will win a lot of things quickly and he is not someone who is going to retire dropping down the rankings.
“The chances are he is going to be somebody that retires as the world number one in his mid-20s.
“He will transcend the sport. The sport right now is not big enough to hold him.
“He will become too big of a name where there will come lots of opportunities outside of the sport that the sport can’t afford.”
The pundit insists the industry is nowhere near ready for the Warrington ace’s star power.
He added: “The sport is not ready for Luke Littler it’s a fact.
“Darts’ audience is tiny in comparison to the real-world mainstream entertainment.
“Yes, the ticket sales are up but the people that are buying the tickets don’t know who they are watching.
“They could literally go to the arena and have Josh Rock or Joe Cullen sit next to them and they wouldn’t know.”
