NIJMAN SAYS DARTS NICKNAMES ARE ‘SILLY’
02/06/2026 By Aaron Nijjar
WESSEL NIJMAN has revealed he has no interest in adopting a darts nickname because he thinks they are “silly”.
The Dutch ace is bucking one of the sport’s biggest traditions despite sharing the circuit with the likes of Luke Littler, Gerwyn Price and Luke Humphries.
While “The Nuke”, “The Iceman” and “Cool Hand” have become household names among darts fans, Nijman has no desire to join the club.
He told Darts Corner: “I just never liked the nicknaming and all the things behind it. I just think it might be a bit silly.
“It’s just nothing for me. I’m just a bit down to earth and a normal guy which maybe [will] not have a nickname.”
Nijman has taken the ProTour by storm in 2026, winning a staggering five Players Championship titles.
But he revealed the accomplishment he still ranks above everything else in his career.
He added: “I think winning the Euro Tour event.
“To win a tournament on such a stage was probably the best thing that could happen that weekend.
“So that is for now my best achievement.”
The 25-year-old thrashed Gerwyn Price 8-3 to lift the European Darts Trophy back in March.
Nijman was also asked which player would be most likely to serve as best man at his wedding.
He continued: “Out of all the dart players I think it can only be one man and that is Niels Zonneveld.
“We used to be neighbours and now we live in different cities, but we still travel together to all the ProTours, all the Euro Tour events events.
“I would say he is my best man on tour now so probably on my wedding as well then.”
