PRICE’S ‘HOWLING MISTAKE’ COST HIM LITTLER WIN
02/06/2026 By Aaron Nijjar
GERWYN PRICE made a “howling mistake” that cost him victory against Luke Littler in their Premier League semi-final.
The Iceman looked down and out when he trailed 9-4 to the reigning world champion but produced a remarkable fightback to force a deciding leg.
However, the Markham thrower was unable to complete the comeback as Littler edged a dramatic contest 10-9 before going on to beat Luke Humphries and lift the title.
Former pro Matt Edgar believes a crucial mathematical error from Price in the final leg handed Littler a significant advantage.
Edgar believes the turning point came when Price opted to switch to the 19s after leaving himself on 342.
He told OLBG: “Gerwyn Price made a howling mistake in that last leg that cost him that match against Luke Littler.
“A howling mistake. I keep talking about it and I am going to keep saying it until it cottons on.
“If you hit one treble, you cannot use the 19s as cover when you are playing at that level.
“I’ll explain what happened. Luke Littler throws, Gerwyn Price throws and he hit 100.
“Littler throws, Price throws 59 and leaves 342. Had he gone to the 17s, he would have left 344. A 180 leaves 164.
“He can go out in six darts. From 342, he hits a 180 and leaves 162; he can’t go out.
“The second he switched to 19s, Luke Littler now has nine darts minimum to win the game.
“There is no pressure on him. He knows he has a minimum of nine darts from that point.
“So, he literally let him off in that last leg through a mathematical error.”
The world No10 has now suffered semi-final heartbreak in each of the last THREE PDC Premier events.
Price returns to action this Friday at the Nordic Darts Masters and will face Darius Labanauskas in round one.
