OWEN MOMENTUM ROCKED BY TRAPPED NERVE INJURY
26/08/2025 By Aaron Nijjar
ROB OWEN is battling a shoulder injury that feels like “an electric shock” as he tries to kickstart his season.
World No. 58 Owen reached the fourth round of the World Championship at the start of the year and also made the sixth round of the UK Open.
But the Welsh thrower has endured a tough run of results on the ProTour after making just one quarter-final at the Players Championship Five in 2025.
Pundit Abigail Davies revealed that Owen has been struggling with a trapped nerve in his shoulder which has led to a dip in results.
She said: “He’s been struggling with a trapped nerve in his shoulder.
“It just feels in his words ‘like an electric shock running through his body.’”
Former major winner Paul Nicholson noticed Owen was struggling at the oche at Players Championship 24 yesterday as he limped to a 6-5 win against Viktor Tingstrom in round one.
Nicholson initially believed Owen had developed a technical flaw in his game before later learning the issue stemmed from injury.
He said: “Rob Owen, if you had said he would make one quarter-final this year by the end of August, he would not be happy.
“I just want to keep an eye on where both players are when they throw their last dart because they are both on the move.
“It is probably the biggest bad habit of dart players around the world, especially on the ProTour.
“Owen leans into dart three every single time. It is something the greats have done like Michael Smith.
“You can see how much he is leaning into his third dart and trying to muster his inner Ritchie Burnett there.”
‘Stack Attack’ was dumped out of the second round after losing 6-5 to Martin Schindler.
The 40-year-old was knocked out in round one today at Event 25 after being edged out 6-4 to Cameron Menzies in Milton Keynes.
