GERWYN PRICE has fired back at critics calling for players to better manage their schedules.

Former World Champion Price beat Josh Rock 8-7 yesterday (Wednesday) to win the Players Championship 12 — his THIRD ProTour title of the year.

The victory comes just days after Price lost to Nathan Aspinall in the last 16 of the International Darts Open this past weekend.

World No. 12 Price later admitted on Instagram he was feeling the effects of a packed schedule, posting: “Too much darts at the moment.”

Now after Luke Humphries admitted burnout and ex-pro Paul Nicholson urged players to balance their schedules better, Price has responded.

He said: “They say balance.

“But if you are going to miss ProTour and European tournaments like I have in the past it catches up with you.

“Now I am world number 12. Are they [PDC] going to pick you for the Premier League when you are down that far?

“If you are going to miss tournaments in two years’ time it will bite you.

“Are they going to give a reward if you go down the ranking?

“It is a fine balance.

“If you miss tournaments, it is a lot of pressure when you are not doing well.”

Seven-time major winner Price’s comments come after world number one Humphries said he “needs a break” after feeling “emotionless” after a victory in Riesa.

‘The Iceman’ is currently third in the Premier League after securing two nightly wins and reaching the final last week in Berlin.

Price will face Luke Littler tonight (Thursday) in Manchester on Night Ten of the competition.
