PRICE POWERS TO NIGHT NINE PREMIER LEAGUE GLORY

GERWYN PRICE admits taking time off helped propel him to victory on Night Nine of the Premier League in Manchester.
‘The Iceman’ picked up his second nightly triumph and the £10,000 top prize in dominant fashion after beating Gian van Veen 6-2 in the final.
World No.9 Price fired in a stunning 167 checkout and averaged an impressive 103.54 to dispatch Luke Humphries 6-2 in the quarter-finals.
The Markham thrower fired in a Big Fish checkout and averaged a stunning 112.91 to thrash Stephen Bunting 6-2 in the semi-final.
Price now sits second in the table and trails Luke Littler by only two points.
He said: “I was chasing two points first game against Luke — a tough game. I played pretty decent in that one and started off with two big checkouts, which settled me in.
“I played really well against Stephen — I thought he played really well as well. I think Van Veen wasn’t really on his game in that final, which I was happy with.
“I thought I was playing decent. It just feels sometimes you can’t miss, and I started throwing the darts the right way.
“They are sitting in the treble 20 and I started reeling in the big fish. I just want to pick up two points every week, but to get a win is a bonus.
“I have ten grand in the bank and I’m up to number two, so vital points for me. I missed a couple of tournaments the last couple of weeks, so that helped.
“Whereas usually I like to chase everything early on when the Premier League is on.
“I have missed the ProTours and the last European. I am not going this weekend.
“It tells when you have a break and are sat in the house — you are biting to get out to get some points.
“You feel fresher. Taking the ProTours and Europeans off definitely helps.”
Van Veen edged past home favourite Littler 6-5 in a tense clash that ended in late drama. The Dutchman was clinical on the outer ring, taking six of his eight doubles to beat Josh Rock 6-3 in the last four.
Rock defied Jonny Clayton’s 107.44 average to secure his second win of the campaign with a 6-4 victory.
Bunting was clinical on the doubles, landing six of his nine attempts to beat Michael van Gerwen 6-3 in their opener.
