GERWYN PRICE believes Luke Littler will beat Phil Taylor’s record of winning 16 World Championship titles.
‘The Iceman’ beat ‘The Nuke’ 6-3 in the Night Six final of the Premier League in Nottingham.
World No.10 Price inflicted more pain on a winless Stephen Bunting, winning the quarter-final 6-4 before putting Michael van Gerwen to the sword with a 6-1 victory.
Seven-time major winner Price has now moved into third, and picked up his second nightly win to level Luke Humphries and Littler on two each.
Price hailed Littler as the best player in the world following his sixth consecutive victory over the teen and backed him to topple Taylor’s record of 16 World titles.
He said: “I try to be more positive and it shows on the board. The last couple of years I’ve been negative on myself.
“I might say I’m enjoying it and loving it but in the background it’s hard. I’m just glad to get a win tonight. Another one over Luke, because I don’t think it will last long.
“He’s the best player in the world and he’s going to be for some years.
“I think he will beat Phil Taylor’s record of 16 world titles. There’s nobody at the PDC at the minute that will stop him – only the younger generation, JDC, can stop him.
“We can’t stop him – he will only get better and better.”
Littler earlier hit two ton plus checkouts of 110 and 164 to beat big rival Luke Humphries 6-4 in the quarter-final.
Reigning World champion Littler then averaged a remarkable 107.82 to defeat Rob Cross 6-3 in the last four and move two points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
The teen sensation is on an insane run of 21 wins and three defeats in 14 days winning a whopping £164,000.
Seven-time winner Van Gerwen, who beat Nathan Aspinall 6-4 in the quarter-finals, has won five of his six quarter-finals this year, but has lost every semi-final.
