PRICE WAS NEARLY NO-SHOW

GERWYN PRICE was so worried about his Ally Pally reception he nearly didn’t turn up!

Price, 38, made his first appearance at the Worlds since wearing ear defenders to drown out the crowd as he lost in the quarters back on New Year’s Day.

But he need not have worried as fans buoyed him on to crush rival Connor Scutt 3-0.

The Iceman sporting bleached blond hair like from his rugby days averaged 98.01 as he only dropped two legs.

And he said: “The crowd was brilliant with me. They have been all year.

“I thought I’d turn up to Ally Pally like it was last year, everyone on my back. I was a bit apprehensive. I didn’t know what was going to happen. But fair play to them.

“I was still in the house yesterday at 6pm, I probably wasn’t going to play in the tournament. It was difficult to come here.

“This time yesterday I was not even on my way to London.

“I am glad they were good to me. If they keep on like this, there is no reason why I cannot win it.

“I started off really well, banged in a 180, sort of got the crowd on my side.

“My game was steady. There were first-round jitters but I am through. I am thankful.”
